Fragment of a statue of an athlete

Frammento di statua di atleta
Eclectic work from the 1st century A.D., attributable to Koblanòs of Aphrodisia
Material and technique:
Thasos marble
From Sorrento

All that remains of this statue are part of the athlete’s leg and the support, in the shape of a Hercules herm. It was found at Sorrento, together with another statue of an athlete, similar but more complete, now at the Naples Archaeological Museum. The latter work is signed by the sculptor Koblanòs of Aphrodisia, who was active in the first century A.D.
