This piece is a copy, smaller than the original, of a work created by Polyclitus in his mature years, between 440 and 430 B.C. The balance in the figure of the hero, who rests his left hand on his back and assumes a sinuous pose, shows that compared with the Doriphoros, the sculptor had reached a more advanced stage of his formal research on the image of the nude male figure.
